Youth Program Stewardship

volunteering

Are you interested in helping as an adult with the Nomad Youth Group?

Volunteering with a youth program can be intimidating. What do you say to a 14-year-old you've never met before? You'll be the "new adult" in the room, and it's natural to wonder if you'll fit in.

As a new volunteer, I can tell you it feels awkward at first. But it gets easier. As you become involved, you'll learn what to say—and sometimes what not to say. And if you stumble, don't worry. No one expects you to be perfect.

Over time, the youth will become comfortable with you, and you'll build genuine relationships. It takes a little courage, patience, and your time.

At one youth meeting I was helping with, a young man was struggling with a Bible passage about judgment. He couldn't understand why God would want us to judge others. As we talked, one word came to my mind: compassion. We aren't called to approach people with condemnation, but with the same mercy and compassion we hope to receive ourselves. The look of relief on his face was immediate. A single word helped him see the passage in a new light.

That moment reminded me that you don't have to be a Bible scholar or have all the answers to make a difference. Sometimes God simply uses an ordinary person who is willing to show up, listen, care, and be available.

No matter who you are, you can make a lasting difference in the life of a young person.

So be encouraged...and volunteer!
